[Peugeot-L] 1987 505 Turbo Doesn't

Looking at a 1987 505 Turbo, with ZF4HP22 Auto trans, to purchase. I don't know anything about turbos, yet (my current '87 has the XN6 engine).

The turbo seems to kick in and then immediately cut out. e.g. At 40 mph, depress accelerator: transmission kicks down and car starts to accelerate, one hears a hiss which I gather is the turbo kicking in, and then it sort of falters and just maintains the current speed at the higher rpm with the accelerator still fully depressed.

The dash turbo gauge does not work.

>From reading about others turbo issues on the list, I will start by speculating might this be the overboost safety valve? If so, is that just an adjustment issue?

What are some other possibilities and what's the worse case?

Any ballpark on what repair might cost (parts anyway); so I can decide whether to get this car and how much to offer.
