Thanks for your help so far, August, on the 1987 505 Turbo I'm considering
buying.

At 3k rpm it suddenly/noticibly hesitates (not sure Iıd call it a hard jolt,
but comes close) then maintains current speed/rpm (no further acceleration).
Back off on the accelerator then accelerate more gently and it works ok.

Much harder than the XN6!

Iım pretty sure I would have heard detonation, if it was happening. Can the
overboost switch work prematurely? Or if faulty wastegate actuator, working
properly; thus, preventing detonnation and not damaging the engine. In
which case rebuilding the turbo would be called for?

Detonation/engine code light: did not come on while driving; I didnıt notice
whether it came on or not when initial put the key to ON position. As
mentioned in the original post, the dash turbo gauge does not work.

The power loss is more than if one just lifted foot from accelerator.

I havenıt checked the ignition timing, however ³normal driving and
acceleration² does suggests that it is ok. I donıt have a boost gauge nor
know to hook it up. I should get one (remember the 1985 TD I bought 2 weeks
ago & still donıt know anything about).

Thanks for mentioning that. I was initially tihinkig worst case is turbo
replacement and I could offer an and amount to account for that. But if
detonation Iıve got the engine to be concerned about, too.
BTW, I donıt suspect hard driving and misuse. Current owner is in his 70s
and also has 2 1985 505 S wagons. Heıs had this car for 12 years/65k of
125k total miles. Body and interior are immaculate; and itıs the first
repainted 505 Iıve seen that has a 1st quality paint job.
