Two important things I learned about the N9TE(A), one the wastegate actuator
and, two, the throttle potentiometer.
I believe August has covered some of the wastegate problems. I bought a car
with a blown engine, and the car ran great. It had been over-boosted over a
long period of time and had a blown head gasket. Three of the pistons were
broken. The fourth we replaced because we didn't trust it. Engine parts are
extremely hard to come by. Have it checked out. Don't get sentimental. Rebuilding
this engine is quite pricey.
The throttle potentiometer is important because it sends a signal to the ECU
which controls engine timing. Check the archives for the procedure, but I
wouldn't waste any time or money until I was sure the engine is mechanically
sound.
