Thanks August, Bill, Roger. And to add to the thread/things to consider, I also found a Joe Grubbs 10/10/2004 reply to:

"505 turbo 85...RPM limited to 2800...What's the cause???"

> Depending on how out-of-adjustment your tachometer is, it could be one of two
things: the normal 6500 RPM rev-limiter, a shorted overboost switch, or a failing throttle microswitch.

> Disconnect the throttle microswitch (the one with the two-terminal connector)
and see if the problem goes away.

> Also try disconnecting the overboost switch, and isolate the wires for it so
they don't short together or to a ground.

> If you use the throttle microswtich adjustment as a "prop-the-throttle-open"
idle speed adjustment, you will cause the throttle microswitch to fail prematurely.
