Is the disrtributor 180 degrees out of time? That'd be my first guess.
Rotor has to be turning and pointing to #1 on the compressions stroke - otherwise it's on exhaust and is 180 degrees out.
Ask me how I know this... :)

Hi,
Help i am in dire need of a good Mechanic in the seattle area to help
me to get my 505 on the road again.
I bought the car in 2003 and quickly replaced the rear bearings and
suspension.
Shortly later i found that the head was cracked while trying to
extract a spark plug.
I found a head at a shop in town and had it rebuilt.
after all was back together i found that it would not start and tried
to back fire once and never again.
I tried a new distributor but to no avail, i can smell fuel in the
engine bay but it dosent turn over and catch.
Can someone please help i am at my wits end and dont want to pay 1000s
to get it fixed again.
