Since I've decided to hang on to the Pug for the time being courtesy of
the insane gas prices, it decided to return the favour by blowing the
alternator on Thursday night. It doesn't look like a regulator issue
(lights don't do the dim/raise routine with the throttle), but the
charging light is on constantly below about 4500 RPM. Checked the belt
and it's fine.
Is there any good way of identifying the alternator without having to
pull it first, which looks like a rather fiddly job? According to
http://tinyurl.com/dswnm , there are no fewer than 13 choices available.
Eliminating the 55-amp units listed as being for the 8V cars, I'm
guessing this means that what I have is the 80-amp Mitsubishi unit - can
anyone verify this?
FWIW, the one I'm looking at getting is at http://tinyurl.com/75dsy ;
hopefully this is the correct unit.
Thanks,
