Its a mitsubishi unit.
I just had to have mine changed out.
Sometimes you can squeeze a bit more life out of it by giving the gas pedal a sharp stomp when you first start. It gets the field going,maybe, and can stay on while the car is on regardless of revs, charging. If this works, I am given to understand you can go on that way anywhere from 6 minutes to 6 months.

I think you can get it out from the top by pulling the bolts on the motor mount over it (a droite) and jacking up the block a bit. Gives just enough clearance to slither it out. ( trick courtesy of the imported car center)
