[Peugeot-L] 405 - alternators & shift linkages

re: replacement alternators - Mi16s do not use the same alternator as other 405s; Mi16 has a different (wider) pulley. re: shift linkages - someone posted here 3 or 4 weeks ago that having a shift linkage pop off was a portent of bad things to come. I meant to save that message and I'd appreciate if that person could re-post it. In the past month, both of my 405s had a link pop off. Both times I was able to reach down and reconnect and drive home with a very grimey hand and arm, but no real harm done. Years ago, my previous Mi16 popped a linkage and went on to over a quarter million miles without any related problems; but I'd like to consider planning for other possibilities, jus in case. Thanks. fs
