Hello,
If you have the SW8, well, as we live and breathe, we all have our private
Hells with the drivetrain. Tonight I finally gave the AFM a douche and, when
taking the test spin, heard again, on putting the car into drive from reverse,
not a clunk, but more like a snap.
I've been having rumbling, vibrations, strange noises, ad infinitum. The
gang at the SBF Car place said they drove it thirty miles, and at speeds ranging
to (gasp) ninety, and the car sounds normal "for a Peugeot wagon that age."
I asked if they sound that way new, and, then, why not replace the parts that
make it sound like this.
It sounds almost as if the engine is lugging when accelerating slowly and I
get torque converter lockup. Vibration, noise. Up to seventy-five that noise
recurs, although it lessens with speed. Then there's a hum, almost like a
wheel bearing. If I back off quickly while driving seventy-five, I get strange
noises, much like road noise from tires on rough pavement. If I'm driving
sixty, and the car has been noisy, I can shift into neutral, and, coasting,
experience much the same noise and vibration as if the engine is powering the car.
The u-joint was replaced thirty-five thousand ago along with, I must assume,
the tranny mounts. Unless someone can give me a different direction, those
are the components which are going to be replaced. I changed the differential
oil two months ago, there was no change in the noise or in the frequency of
the noise, and there were no metal chunks or filings in the drained oil or on
the plug.
Thank you for any input on this one.
Bill
