I was going to make that exact suggestion since I exprienced it many times owning number of 405s but it seems so simple I just kept it my self. Having to own several less than perfect 405s, I often swap batteries around and the cable is not always tighten down. It apears that all lights come on and turn the ignition key to the start position and all goes dark. Move the cable around and everything comes back on.

Subject: [Peugeot-L] 405 electrical problem
Thanks to Mike Aube for his sound advice. It boiled down to looking for the simple things first. Except for a twist -
If there's any piece of advice that is given more than any other piece of advice on this list, it's "check the ground connection". I sure did, even to concluding the negative battery terminal was the culprit. But it turned out it was the POSITIVE terminal. With the terminal bolt completely tightened, it brought the sides of the terminal into a bit of an oval. So the terminal could be tight one time, but the next time - in a slightly different position - it wasn't making good contact. I happened to poke one of the probes of my meter so that it touched both the terminal and the battery post, and the radio played, headlights glared...it was the Fourth of July!
So Mike's advice was good: wiggle the wires - all of them!
