Re: [Peugeot-L] 1978 504 automatique ignition key question

Cars are way smarter now than back then in the dark ages...

Consider my sister's 2000 Golf 1.8T

For the last couple months on occasion it won't shift out of P or N with the engine running. Not much fun when a train is coming, it is a "safety feature". Remember the mid to late 80s Audis that kept driving into stuff when geezers were standing on the brakes.

So after a couple brake light/shift interlock switches, all new Euro brake light bulbs and a dozen fuses
it turns out VW has for 35 years been buying their wiring from the same guys who wired the Swiss Air airliner that stuffed itself into the Atlantic off Nova Scotia a few years ago. If you have an Audi 5000 like a buddy of mine you will know what I mean. Every wire that flexes as it goes from the A post to the driver's door is cracked and busted nothing in his car that is even remotely connected to the 30 wires going into the driver's door has worked for 12 years.

So eventually I pulled open the boots over the wires between thereof and the hatch on the Golf. Same shit. After 20 years the same shit. Who do they think they are? This Golf is 6 years old it has 80,000 km or 50,000 mi. It has seen light to normal use and half the wires in these boots are either busted completely or have cracked insulation exposing bare wires.

VW has a long and sordid history of not fixing shit they pull. There probably wasn't a Rabbit in the world that didn't have at least one fuse box replaced because it was in a drain path.

Has everybody heard enough of this rant?

If you have a VW be warned! If you open the hatch or the driver's door don't stop on RR tracks.

I'm just curious, was my 504 engineered so that   ignition key can be withdrawn wih transmission in   drive/reverse? Do I have some kind of interlock   that is broken?
