The V6 is usually a no brainer, having said that you should carefully
check the history and condition of the ZF 4HP22 auto trans and rear
differential. The 87 didn't come with the much stronger Torsen limited
slip diff that showed-up in the 88s. The diff on pre-88s has a
difficult time handling the greater torque of the V6 and 4 cyl.Turbos.
If the car was driven aggressively (Spinning rear tires which is
easier do to do with the V6 than turbo)or driven in snow it probably
has already had a diff replacement. The weak link is a $0,10 pin that
holds the spider gear shaft. When it break it causes major internal
damage.
IMO the V6 engine mated to a manual transmission is the best
combination in the 505 series. Good luck with your purchase...
