The catalyst on my turbogas was exchanged for a relatively clean used
one by Mike Aube 1.5 years and 15,000 miles ago. Already though I am
starting to have the same symptoms of blockage again, including lots
of blowback when the oil cap is pulled off, plus the idle drops way
down when the oil cap is off, and the third symptom is the gas mileage
is down, much more on the highway than in my normal driving (17 mpg
highway, 20 around town). Right after the new catalyst was put in I
was getting 21 around town, 24 highway.
The car uses about a half quart oil every 5000 miles, and no
antifreeze, so why does it seem to be getting blocked up so quick?
Should I pull off the catalyst box and knock out the ceramic to prove
this is the problem before I go buy a new one?
