Re: [Peugeot-L] 81 505s TD Injector pump timing?

I have heard from informed sources that the pump timing gets later and later as a result of stretch and wear in the timing chain assembly. You should scribe a line at a place where the pump and mounting plate will keep track of the current timing
Loosen and rotate the top of the pump toward the engine 1/8" tighten one bolt and test
Try moving again 1/16"
test
careful
The bolt against the block requires a 6" long 6 mm allen key on a 3/8 dr socket

  Hi group.
Yesterday I drove our Peugeot again which I do every now and then.   Although, the engine smokes much less than it did when we first began   using it this Spring, it does still smoke a bit black under load. Mr   Courtier was kind enough to send me a glow plug symptom chart. In this   chart and in the book for my other diesel vehicle it says the fuel   injector pump timing may be off. I have adjusted the valves and can do   this again, but I sure would like to try timing the injector pump to   better performance. In the Isuzu book it shows a way to move the IP   back or forth to advance or retard the point at which the pump does   its thing. Also people with Mercedes Benz diesels seem to have an   altitude compensator. This Peugeot lives at 7000feet. Really the car   runs exceptionally well, albeit under powered and smokey. I have heard   of others getting better fuel mileage and performance. I wouldn't want   to miss out on bettering the ride for my wife who drives this car   daily.
