I thank all my Peug-Advisors for the thoughtful advice. We're headed
down the replace for reliability road. BTW, in consulting on this
issue up here, most of these hoses are well made, of good materials
and would be good "backup" material. I studied an engine being
cleared for removal with about 250 K on it, and all its orginal hoses.
There are a few other weak spots, however, on the mi16 engine cooling
system, notably a plastic junction box bolted on the back of the
block into which a few hoses merge. The plastic of the '90s was a
maturing, but not a mature technology, whereas rubber was much
farther along. I think we can expect these kinds of parts to fail
under stress faster than the rubber in the hoses. Just a thought.
