Hi TJ,
Yes, I'm not surprised by the price. I just hope I can avoid paying more
for the windshield than I paid for the whole car! It is possible to get
glass for pretty much any old car, but it may have to be custom-made and
of course one pays accordingly. A 404 isn't a common car in the US, but
it's not super-rare either and I know there must be parts cars and/or
parts hoards out there.
I once had a 1959 Cadillac Series 75 formal limousine, which had a taller
windshield than the regular Cadillac models. It was only used in
limousines and hearses. When it was cracked after being hit by a rock
thrown up by a big 4x4 pickup truck (argh!) I was able to find a company
that could supply a replacement made in South America, but the price was
$800 and that was almost twenty years ago. I chose not to replace it.
Thanks for checking your windshield stock - please let me know if you have
a usable one! Where are you located?
Best regards,
Geoff
