$500 for an windshield might look expensive considering you can get a new windshield for most common cars for as low as $200 installed. However, I am surprised you can even get a new one at any price these days on a such rare and old car like 404. I also own 3 Alfa Romeo 164, relatively newer model as all of them are 1994 and 95 models. I have no choice but pay close to $1000 to have one installed or have the insurance deal with it. I used to have few 403 and 404 windshields laying around in my backyard. I will see if any of them are any good.

Sorry, can't help on the glass, but my first Peugeot was a used 404   wagon in 1976. Great car.

  Hi all,

I've just joined the list after buying a scruffy but sound 1969   Peugeot
404 wagon last weekend. I live in the Santa Cruz, California   area. I
have a lot of old British and European cars but this is my first   Peugeot
since high school, when I drove a 204 sedan. Yes, a 204, bought   from a
family friend who was a mechanic and Peugeot nut. A customer of   his had
privately imported it from France, and he eventually bought it   and used it
as his own tranportation until selling it to me.

Back to the present - my new wagon needs a variety of things,   but most
pressing is a new windshield. Can anyone out there steer me in   the
direction of a good used one? I did get a quote of $500 plus   installation
for a new one but I hope not to have to spend that kind of   money.

  Thanks,

  Geoff
