only wanted to add - also the 604 had the 2.9 ZNJ-engine with K-jetronic
( only the GTI upon 1983 ) but also this engine is not really the same
with the 505 V6 ZN3J. It neither has the knock-sensors nor parts like
the cylindre-heads, pistons etc. are equal.
Have to agree fully with you Bob, no real compare between the 604 V6 and
the 505 V6: We drove the 604 GTI 2,9 with 3HP22 for about 1 1/2 year and
now drive the 505 V6 2,8 4HP22 since about 2 years. With the 604 we
normally came home with a trailer every 2nd month while the 505 V6 so
far only made some trouble with the LED for the knock-sensor. The main
problem at the 604 always was the central-lock over vacuum, also the
main reason why at least the engine blowed :-/

The 604 and 505 V6 engines are both PRVs but the 505 is 2.8 liter while
the 604 is smaller, 2.6 or 2.7 liter.
The 604 has a dysfunctional Solex carb setup while the 505 V6 has
flawless Bosch EFI
with fully incorporated electronic computer controlled ignition.
There is probably nothing from one that will interchange to the other.
The 604 V6 was an awful lemon while the 505 V6 was great and arguably
the
best of the 505s.

PS I am sure there are some out there that think the 604 V6 was the
greatest of all. They no doubt have their reasons.
