I had the same problem with my '75 504 Diesel. It was because the release bearing was shot, it squealed like a stuck pig. Well, really the release bearing was seized and and it dragged on the clutch fingers to the point that it very nearly wore them through! It was a big embarassment at every stop light until I repaced the clutch and release bearing. Is it possible that the release bearing was not replaced at the time the clutch was replaced?
