For some reason, I haven't been able to use those codes either. :-( Must be
for US market models, for some model years only or something.

It's in Finnish but now it's good time to start learning. Just joking. ;-)
You should be able to understand codes and ratios etc. For identifying a
differential from year 1980 (1975-1981) Look picture II on page 7, it tells
where to found the marking. Section II on page six explains all. The first
six characters are the production number and the letter after tells the gear
ratio.
X63597 W
W = 9x37 = 4,111:1, PC7 or PC8, oil capacity 1,55 liters. I had the same
model differential in my 1981 STI:

To identify that 504 differential (from the start of the production to 1974)
you have to look the picture I on page 7 and the section I on page 6.

5 = 9x35 = 3,889:1, PB1 or PC4, oi capacity 1,8 (PB1) or 1,2 (PC4) liters.
The first digit is the code for the gear ratio and those other six
characters are the production code.
