Hello Brian,
thanks for this most informative link!
However, I have some trouble with not mixing up all the various fuels in
our languages :-)
SVO means "straight vegetable oil" this should be the same as "rape oil"?
And there are give a lot of instructions of how to make your own
"Biodiesel".
Is that the same Biodiesel that is available commercially as "Biodiesel"
or "RME"?
Also I am aware of the problems that Biodiesel can introduce to the fuel
system's rubber parts of older cars.
Do you know, or can point me to a further source, where I can find info
about these parts regarding the 604 TD? Or can I just use it without
conversions? The car should remain to be able to also run on fossile
Diesel, of course.
When using the car on long-range trips, is there a problem if I fill it up
with e.g. 20-30 litres of SVO in between, that means AFTER having started
and warmed-up the engine on fossile or Biodiesel?
I did the latter some times with my old Mercedes 300D W123 on long trips.
Nothing was converted. After warming up the car (e.g. by simply driving it
to a SVO fuel station that is about 10 kms from my home) I filled it up
with SVO, e.g. 30 litres if the trip was approx. 400 km, and before
arriving at the destination filled up with fossile Diesel again, to make
sure I won't have to consider any SVO cold start issues.
with many regards,
Thomas
