Hi, The administator said posts about members are welcome.
I've had a 205 XLD (1988 F reg) through uni which was a massive
improvement on the 88 F fiesta (950 popular) I had. Felt more solid
and was gripper, though still dubious in the wet.
Anyway the car was basically abused for 50,000 miles. I think I got
it with 130K on theh clock and it's now got more the 180K. However
there is a whining coming from either wheel bearings or the gearbox
output shaft and I can't be bothered to fix it. That and the million
other faults --- Front disks are warped (steering wheel wobbles a
bit/lot) front suspension sits too high, rear far too low. I carry
weight on the tow bar and rear suspension sits lower than it should,
the bump stops fell off and mow the dampers are leaking. (probably
why the rear sits too low) The engine leaks as well (of course) One
of the dash lights refuses to work so I can only see half of the
speedo in the dark - i've tried to fix it several times but no luck
with dodgy contacts. The passenger door has rusted and I removed the
lock after a thief tried the same. The plastic strip on the boot
fell off which also held the boot lock on properly. Ummm The roof
used to leak through the arial but sone bath sealant fixed it. And
the steering wheel is wonkey.
It's never had an oil change but leaks so it's like changing it
anyway. But still gets 50mpg which is good.
Soo I've bought a 1995 405 1.9 TD Estate (128K miles) which needs a
few things fixing but hopefully nothing too major and I dont mind
doing a few small jobs...
Air con / air vents smell when cold
Steering wheel does not line up straight
The exhaust rattles a bit at the back when idling
I'd like to get rid of whatever is in the way of the clutch pedal.
Speedo wobbles so really needs a new cable.
I need to change the stereo
Immobiliser has been disabled so central remote unlock does not
work.
