>From my own experience with the motorized belts, I'd guess the motor's getting electricity, it just doesn't have the power to move anymore. We need to find someone who can advise us how to rebuild those can motors. Otherwise, your only option is to find a replacement for the entire motor/track/slider assembly. On my S the slider clicks into position about half the time; I always have to remember to check to see if it actually locked in. (I always unhook the shoudler belt before it starts its trek forward, to lessen the effort needed to do its job.)
The Haynes manual does a reasonably good job of explaining how to remove the plastic trim pieces without too much damage.

As far as your trunk lock goes, you might be better off just adapting the current lock to lock/unlock with the central locking system.
