[Peugeot-L] Locked out.. 86 505 sti 2.0 auto

Well this tops all. Please help with any fixes

When I try to unlock the drivers side with the key the lock stem goes up but snaps down and doesn't unlock any of the doors! Ive tried all the wiggling in the world and combinations of pushing and pulling and Onhandles etc. Is there a way to fix/prevent this? ...very awkward crawling in from the passenger side..
