To measure standout, get two pistons all the way up. put a straight edge
across them, and measure the gap between straight edge and block with
feeler gauges. Gasket thickness is solely determined by piston standout,
not by head thickness.
I can't see the uploaded file because I am unwilling to spend more than 30
minutes trying to sign in to yahoo. Does the chart distinguish between
standard head bolts and TTY (torque-to-yield) bolts? Standard bolts should
always be replaced by TTY bolts; TTY bolts may be reused up to five times.
Diesel heads crack between the valves. Be sure to clean those narrow areas
thoroughly to check for cracks.
I copy the message I sent you on 10/18, as you seem to have missed it:
Brian, there are six different part numbers for TD headgaskets, for the
three thicknesses and with or without bolts. Most engines take the 2-notch
0209.C3 or ..C8, but most gaskets sold are the wrong ones. It depends on
the piston standout, and how far up your bolts are threaded. I have the
gaskets and can advise on the correct one. --Brian Holm
