I have inquired from time to time of members of this group if any
chemical repairs were successful. No reply was enthusiastic and few
were cautiously positive. Finding my daughter had reduced the 87 to
scrap, water in exhaust and oil, I tried Steel Seal after its success
in a 79 El Dorado my son drives.
Lo and behold, success again. Though a veritable fog bank issued from
the exhaust pipe upon restarting the engine after a long period of
idleness, after the prescribed running, without removing sparkplugs,
no evident leaks. It will be interesting to see if the stuff holds up
over the long haul but considering the relative ease of repair and
that this engine was considered kaput by experts, I am impressed. I
shall soon use the chemical on another 505 she killed two years ago.
If it fixes that one and the 87 continues to function, perhaps many a
505 Turbo can live longer.
