Help! The 1984 604TD I purchased a week ago now will not start. My
wife is pissed that I bought such an old car when we need reliable
transportation. What I have is a case where only the brake and oil
pressure warning lights come on when the key is in the ON position. No
other warning lights, no glowplug heat and not a sound from the starter
when the key is turned to START. Battery has a full charge. Ignition
lights and buzzer work fine. All other electrics work. Started fine
for several errands earlier today and then WHAM! I've got a useless
car. Fuses all look OK, but I have not put a meter to them yet. Is
there a problem in a relay somewhere? Any thoughts on "hot-wiring" the
starter and the glowplugs so I could at least drive it to a repair
shop? What about a source for wiring diagrams more detailed than the
one shown in the owners manual?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
