Hi Rabin.
Certainly no expert on diesels, but I have read quite a bit about injection
systems, mainly how they pertain to using alternative fuels, and I can tell
you at least this much. The TDI stands for turbo, DIRECT injection which is
a fundamentally different concept than the INdirect injection used in 80's
peugeots and other diesels. It would take an engine swap, not just taking a
newer style injection pump and swapping out the old. In fact, the newest
diesels don't even have a traditional pump. Many of them have the "pump" on
the injector itself. I believe the common term is Unit Injector. Every
injector has it's own pump which works more like a traditional gas vehicle
in concept and practice.
Let us know if you find out anything more..
