Yes. Lets say I learnt about this through necessity! The Haynes manual is actually helpful in solving this problem.

>From what you have told me, the central locking unit/alarm/immobiliser is
fine. The problem is either in the key or in the IR receiver by the interior light.

The way this system works is that the IR receiver is connected using 4 wires;

* +12V
* 0V
* Lock/Immobilise
* Unlock/Unimmobilise

To lock/immobilise the car, the lock/immobilise is shorted to ground. To unlock/unimmobilise the car, the unlock/unimmobilise is shorted to ground.

I found that when I had to optimise mine so that I could drive the car while waiting for a replacement key, the red plastic diffuser over the IR receiver had an unhelpful layer of dust through the inside. Cleaning it out may help.

Pulling the IR receiver and fitting some batteries to the remote will allow for testing. There is not a lot to fault find on these units. A decent digital multimeter is probably about as sophisticated as you need.

My experience was that I had battery and connection problems inside the key. The replacement key I have appears somewhat more robust.

As you probably guess, the key and receiver is a matched pair. If you order a replacement key you will need all the usual documentation and the magic code from the key. The keys cost about 60 pounds and take about 2 weeks to arrive at Peugeot dealerships.
