>From time to time Mike Aube of Ontario (who's on this list) has
mentioned in recent years some pretty high (although I'm sure fair) 504
prices up his way. A fellow in Maine sold a really clean low - miles
diesel wagon last year think in the $2,00-3,000 range.

Subject: [Peugeot-L] '78 504 diesel wagon
Hello all Peugeot afficionados.
My name is Bill DePue, and I live in northwest New Jersey. I have no
fewer than 4 diesel Peugeot automobiles: an '86 505 wagon (325,000
miles); an '84 505 wagon (115,000 miles-super clean); an '84 505,
5-speed sedan (215,000 miles-new paint, restored, super, super clean);
and alas, a '78 504, 4 speed wagon with 225,000 miles, that took a
major hit from a school bus which ran a stop sign one month ago.
The '504 took the hit in the driver's side front fender/wheel housing
and needless to say, sustained serious body work and structural damage.
I would like to find a way
to resurrect this old friend that I have owned since new. Other than
the damaged quadrant, the remainder of the body is still very
respectable, the interior is in great condition, and the drive train
seems to be as strong as it was 150,000 miles ago, and the car had still
been delivering 38 to 39 mpg.
In any case, I am seeking a 504 wagon for parts or might consider
putting my drive train, interior, perfect condition tailgate, etc. into
another complete car if the overall condition of the body work on that
example was superior to the overall condition of mine.
The insurance company for the bus company has "totalled" my car and has
made me a rather insulting offer for settlement. To contest their
appraised value of the car, I am looking for sales of a similar car
(preferably a diesel, preferably a wagon as opposed to a sedan, but I
would be willing to cite sales of any 504's) to demonstrate value.
I did find one sale of a restored 504 in apparently exceptional
condition that sold for $10,000 in British Columbia approximately 2
months ago. (Certainly the condition of my 504 did not approach the
condition of that example, but that sale does demonstrate that this is
somewhat of a "classic" special interest car that carries real value in
an admittedly limited but knowledgeable market.) Mr. Brian Holm of
Vermont told me that he was aware of at least a couple of sales of 504
wagons in nice condition that sold through eBay sometime in the past for
around $3,500-$4,000. I have been unable to find these through a search
of eBay's available records.
Does anyone out there know of any sales of 504's (again, preferably
diesel, preferably a wagon, but I would consider others) that I could
use in my arbitration with the insurance company appraiser/adjuster?
I would appreciate any thoughts, information or leads anyone could
provide to assist me in my battle with the insurance company and in my
efforts to put my old friend back on the road.
I hope to hear from someone. Thank you. Bill DePue
