For those of you who remember Peugeot Pete I thought you might be interested
to know October 16th was the first anniversary of his death and his family
held a memorial service last Sunday. Since he donated his body to science and
had no funeral they needed this for closure. I found all those tribute
letters the group members wrote and put them in a binder labeled "Peugeot Pete:
tributes from around the world". I also made up an album of pictures of his Army
career and had his beloved Peugeot belt buckle and a couple of his caps with
his angel pin and American flag and Peugeot lion on them. The Army provided
a beautiful folded flag in a pedestal display case and a framed certificate
signed by the post commander of Ft Story certifying the flag was flown at
Headquarters in his honor, saluted, folded and put in the case. (We were both
stationed at Ft. Story - that's where we met.)
It was a very touching ceremony and showed a side of him his family never
knew. The hundreds of letters of tribute were priceless. He'd been estranged
from his family for years for a number of reasons. When they read those letters
and saw how so many people thought so very much of him and how much they
valued his friendship and advise they were very surprised and very touched. I
think it started a very real healing process.
When it was my turn to speak I said he was indeed the most aggravating,
annoying, opinionated and micro managing man I'd ever had to privilege and honor
to know, and to love. And I would give my soul to have him here with me one
more day to argue about his beloved Peugeots versus my Oldsmobile GM junk. I'd
even let him win for once.
His books and manuals have all been catalogued and photographed. His garage
is slowly being emptied out except for his Peugeot tools and parts. I'll
catalog and photograph them next. Ed Weisberg still has Pete's Computer and was
going to do a compilation of all the massive amount of Peugeot data he had
accumulated. It'll probably be a complete repair manual with all parts and wiring
diagrams. Ed also still has Pete's Microfiche reader and fiche. Once
everything is completed it will be offered to the group at Pete's request before
being put on eBay, You recall he said he wanted his Peugeot friends to have
first chance at it.
Lastly, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the caring
and support you gave me during a very sad and rough time. I may not be a
"Peugeotphile" like Pete was but I consider you my friends as well.
God bless you all........Carol Ives
