Thanks Kit. Good ad-vise ;-)

I'll give it a shot if it ever stops raining here.

Oh and the poltergeist in the wipers seems to have gone, after I picked up one of my kids from Hallowe'en. I got home, the wipers had been wiping every 35 seconds, I shut it off then tried the accessory position and it wiped once (which it had previously been doing only in ignition position), off again then full on and it had stopped.

Hmmm

BTW, if I had a wad of cash burning a hole in my pocket (which I don't, having just got back from a trip to Europe with five), I would be tempted to buy a new Mercedes-Benz B-Class to replace the 405. It's a 4 door hatch that they're selling in Canada but not the USA, about the size/architecture of a Toyota Matrix, only a little taller. But by the time they bring the CDI Diesel into Canada for the 2008 model year (which seems to be the case), I might be ready.

Thanks again
