Re: [Peugeot-L] Insurance woes...

It's the same for other cars. I also belong to and Oldsmobile club and have a '70 Ralley 350 & a '71 442 W-30. If anything happens to them the insurance company only considers them a 30+ year old car. The only way around that is to insure them for "Full replacement cost" and when you do that you are only allowed to drive them to and from shows/events/repair for a total of 1000 miles per year. Where is the fun in that? As with the Peugeot's, the OEM parts are almost none existent and when you do find them they COST!

It's sad but true in this day and age.

It's a sad fact of life that our cars aren't considered to be valuable.

A couple of months ago my son's '89 505 DL wagon was totaled in an accident. Other driver's fault. Their insurance company (GEICO; ask me off list for horror stories about these guys...) fought and fought. The '89 was in perfect shape other than the normal fading paint. Newer Michelins, alloy wheels. Upholstery all good. He'd even spent $400 on the French headlights about 6 months ago... End result - a check for $1100.

The following week his mom was rearended in her '90 405 sportwagon. Minor bumper damage she'll live with. The adjustor gave her a check for $900 saying "If it'd been $50 more we'd've had to total it."

Both these cars were reliable, comfortable, enjoyable daily drivers. They're unique and it's difficult, if not impossible, to find comparable or equivalent vehicles in today's market. As we know.

I'm still keeping comp and collision on my Peugeots but mostly for the glass and so I can decline cdw on rentals...

Just my $0.02 on the subject...
