From: Kevin Bouffiou <kbouffiou_at_comcast.net>
Date: 11/04/05

Does anyone have the email address of the individual who was going to sell about 18 Peugeots back east somewhere? I need side trim for an 88 505 GLX.

Thanks, Kevin

Bonjour!

Does anyone have two used ATE (front left and front right) brake caliper assemblies that will fit an 86 505 TD, 2.5L XD3T, please? I replaced the solid rotors with vented ones, and foolishly threw out the old ATE calipers. Now I am having a hell of a time with the rebuilt ones I purchased. The sliding armature on one of them will not bolt to the car because the distance between the bolt mounting holes is greater than the 3" (approximately - I have a picture I can send anyone who needs a visual). And, I am not even sure that the hydraulic cylinders are the correct ones. I have new hydraulic cylinders, but want the old ones to compare and make sure that they are correct.

The vendor was not willing to do anything about the error because I purchased them a while ago. Please advise on the price desired, shipping is to Colorado Springs, CO 80919. Also need two connectors for the oil cooler lines to the radiator; I have a radiator from an earlier diesel model that I am attempting to adapt. The connectors on my 86 are too large (both the bolt and the tapered metal tube - I can take a picture and send - the nipples on the radiator appear to be 10 or 11mm in diameter). I was unable to find a replacement radiator that wasn't ridiculously priced ($400 and up - the one Peugeot still has available costs over $700).

Merci Buckets!

my 85 505 TD Automatic, has a problem I don't understand.

On the right side of the dash gauge assy are several lights which come on when the switch comes on and are supposed to go off when the motor starts..

The top 3 of these lights are Oil Pressure, water level, and Stop...

these lights would not go off when the engine starts, so I replaced the oil pressure switch on the oil filter housing, and the switch in the water tank.. They still do not go off..

Any one run into this problem..

thanx..

I sold a bunch of Euro lights from Argentina to list members. I had a lot of problems and ended up shiping some of them 3 times! (they arrived twice broken).

I am thinking on resuming Euro light sales in a couple of weeks. The lights themselves are around US$50-60 a pair, but shipping has proven to be very expensive. I finaly succeeded shiping them via DHL at a cost of over US$100 per set. Good thing I had a lower quote and could make them honor it for the first sets.

Would you still buy Euro lights for US$200 a pair? I think I need about that to cover cost, shipping and decent packaging/handling...

I have for 505 and 504. Dual bulbs are special order but can be obtained as are those for 405s.

86 505 Turbo sedan: Fuse six blows.

The radio stopped working and the door locks. The 25 amp fuse keeps blowing
immediately with a little "pop" when a replacement is installed at position
six. Electrical problems! The most perplexing and difficult trouble as far
as I am concerned. On the chance that someone on the list remembers fixing a
position six fuse box short, I appeal for help.

Any general or specific advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Subject: Synthetic Oil in XD3T Diesel Engine

Those of you who use synthetic motor oil in Diesel engines: do you run
extended intervals (e.g. 5-6,000 miles) or still stick to 3,000 mile
changes?

And, 10W-30 Mobil 1 seems much easier to find, and is less expensive than
10W-40 Castrol (I haven't seen 10W-40 Mobil 1 here). Especially during the
winter, even though we have a mild climate generally above freezing, is
there any potential harm in using 10W-30? (manual recommends 10W or 15W-40
for above -10C/+14F; 10W-40 or 10W-30 for below -10C/+14F).

As a side note, when I first started using synthetic oil in the gas cars it
was 4-5 times as expensive as dyno oil. As of last week it was only 2-3 X.

Not that anyone cares... but the list has been really slow lately.

I have such a laundry list of crap that needs to be done on the car it's not
funny.

But, I've been stockpiling parts like mad, so I'm dealing with one step that
can take forever.

All is random, of course. :)

Installed new Bosch AIC valve. Still idles high. I'm almost positive that
the hose that runs from the AIC to the throttle body is toast. It has the
original one-time-use Oetiker clamp on the TB side, so that bad boy will
have to be replaced. Funny, rubber just doesn't last 18 years in an engine
compartment. It surely looks to be a NLA part, so I'll take the hose off
and take it to parts stores and say "match this". Always lots of fun. I'm
keeping track of matched hose numbers, so N9T owners who need them can get
them from the website.

Still to install: new knock sensor and euro lights.

I still need a bolt that holds the rear left (driver's [USA]) side seat belt
(shoulder harness) secure. Mine's missing.

Still need anthracite (dark gray) seats. Front and rear. Leather.

PS leaking. Pretty badly. Seems to leak when car is off. I parked it for
a month and came back to find a long snaking lake. Could be resevoir, hoses
or rack. With my luck, it's probably the rack. No, make that all three.

Alternator intermittantly charging. Have to get my lazy butt under there to
check it out. Or pull the alternator and take it back to shop and have it
rebuilt.

Still, it was fun driving the car the last few days. So much nicer than the
Toyota.

I swear, I will have a 100% perfect 505 someday. Anybody actually have one?

1985 TD Wagon: I inspected mine and the leak was coming out of a steering boot; told to replace the rack. Got it from Brian Holm $200 + $100 core charge. Will install this weekend, I hope, & report back then. 1987 XN6 Sedan: leak was coming from the high pressure hose. Obvious if someone turns steering wheel while you are looking at it. Cost $40 from AutoZone including shipping; not an exact fit (Powercraft 71368), but close enough. Didn't spring for the whole assembly (little black box on the back), had new individual brushes soldered in for next to nothing. No specific Peugeot parts involved, the guy didn't even know what it was for. Those little brushes can also hang up in the holder too...sometimes you can just tap on the holder and free them or take it off and blow out air. I'm not sure if these early vin numbers actually included a digit for the year but I thought I would ask anyway. It seems odd to me that a car built that late would be considered a 79 model. vin: 504AC03284034 thanks steve a ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 17 Date: Fri, 04 Nov 2005 06:16:49 -0000 From: "p404c" <tippett@shaw.ca> Subject: 405 brake proportioning valve wanted - TJ Park? Preferably used...I have seen really nice ones on tj park's wrecks (you out there, tj?). They don't use road salt down in WA, so the 405 DL/S (no ABS) rear brake proportioning valves seem to last an awfully long time down there. Please email me at tippett -hat- shaw -dawt- ca if you have any leads etc. I might even travel as far as Seattle in my smart to get a good used one!
