In any other year that is certainly true. However, 1979 was the last year
for USModel 504 sedans, so they kept building them like '79s (CAV
Rotodiesel injection, stud mounted injectors) and calling them '79s.
I don't know when the '80 wagon production started, with Bosch
injection. The new VIN format began with '80 models, with the letter A
designating the year, and a one-year only sequential numbering system
starting with 108,000. '81 started with 600,000.
