Isn't cavitation is a problem with the coolant pump impellor.

It is long time, 1975 since I was in contact with the Peugeot Diesel antifreeze I was about 3 to 4 times the price and prevented some metal pieces from being destroyed when mixed with the engine oil. I am not positive what gets destroyed when engines are run with oil contaminated with conventional 1975 antifreeze.

I assume the diesel owner's manuals recommend Peugeot antifreeze. My manual is presently out of town.

  Oh wow. Do you have any details on how they accomplished this?

  There are plenty of big, wet sleeved, diesel engines out there now (in   fact the Cummins motor in the Dodge Ram stands out because it is not   wet sleeved). To the best of my knowledge the only issue was with   cavitation, and not the bearings.

  I'd love to read up more on this, especially in light of my possibly   blown head gasket :-D
