Power Steering Racks - Fluid Leakage
BULLETIN NO. 428
DATE: SEPTEMBER, 1991
SUBJECT: FLUID LEAKAGE FROM POWER STEERING RACKS
MODELS: ALL 405 AND 505 VEHICLES
The Warranty Parts Inspection/Testing Area has received several power
steering racks that have been replaced due to leakage of power steering
fluid from the protective boots at the tie rod ends. Please be advised that
there is no fluid circulation through the steering rack itself, only the

housing or protective boots, replace only the power steering pinion valve
not the entire rack assembly.
NOTE: STEERING RACK ASSEMBLIES RETURNED TO THE WARRANTY DEPARTMENT FOR THIS
CONDITION WILL BE RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND YOUR WARRANTY CLAIM WELL BE
DEBITED FOR BOTH PARTS AND LABOR
