FWIW. In my case it was Fuse 8 in a 1983 505 XN6 (Backup lights, brake
lights, fan declutch, twin speed relays, tachometer). Fussing around with
wiring diagrams and a DVM for a to many hours led to even more frustration.
Finally I bought 2 packs of 15A fuses. Then I disconnected all related
multi-wire connectors and, with ignition switch in run position, reconnected
one-by-one until the fuse blew. Then I disconnected everything related
downstream from the diagnosed connector circuit and re connected until the
fuse blew. In my case it turned out to be a shorted fuel evap canister
electrovalve; an item I did not remotely suspect based on wiring diagrams
(or at least my ability to read them). I did go through about 8 fuses in
the process, but cheap relative to time. HTH, Charlie
