Take the PS belt off and drive it. I have done this for over 400 miles before
repairing it without damage to the rack. The Australians have been rallying
504's with 505 racks without power steering and they also report that there is
no damage to the rack. And clearly, if there is no power steering belt, there
is no damage to the pump.
