The car was towed a couple of days before it got here. :(
Portland towing companies are engaged in what amounts to legalized
extortion. They can tow a vehicle without warning or complaint at the
drivers discretion. So my car, which was running and being used (i.e.
not just gathering leaves in a parking spot) was towed last Friday
afternoon. That way they could maximize the fees for me to get it back
at $300+. (Weekend fee, gate fee, storage fees, etc.)
The Oregonian has done several articles on this practice, but I can't
find the link at the moment.
Good thing I have my regular pug (85 505 STI) or I would have been up a
creek. (Which is how the racket works, they figure that the owner
doesn't have a backup and will be forced to buy back their own car.)
But I bought the car for $450, and after having it for a few months it
was looking like maybe I paid too much. It seemed like each time I
drove it I would notice some other problem that would need to get fixed.
So I'm not really that upset that it is gone, other than the fact that
those leeches thought they were going to roll me for the better part of
a weeks pay.
Grrr.....
