A car must be certified by the manufacturer that it met US standards at the time it was manufactured or be 25 yr old before it can be imported into the USA.
In Canada it must be at least 15 yr old.

Subject: [Peugeot-L] Speaking of shipping cars....
Why arenīt more Peugeots being imported from South America to the States? Iīm in Argentina as I write this, and there are gaggles of straight, running 404s and other 25-year-old and older vehicles. Certainly, none have seen road salt--at least around Bunoes Aires. I understand many are locally built or assembled. Does that suggest the quality or longevity is up to French standards? Maybe better?
