Now that we have that item out of the way let's help him troubleshoot the
fan clutch circuit, unless of course he's already figured it out.
This is a simple circuit.
Power is applied to the relay to turn it on through the thermo switch on the
radiator. Determine if you can turn on the relay first, by manually
injecting 12volts to pin 86 on the relay, see this diagram

Does the clutch turn on?
If not make sure there is 12 volts to pin 30 of the relay.
If not look at the power supply from the fuse box.
On our 81 505td the fuse circuit board had a slew of bad solder joints and
juice wasn't making it to the relay.
