'85 TD Wagon, XD3T Engine, 3 speed auto, ~240k: 25 mpg in the winter,
27-28 in summer. City, highway doesn't seem to matter; i do loose 1-2 mpg
when pulling 2500 lbs. Compared to the XN6 sedans, the wagon does seem to
have more rolling resistance; don't know if that is drivetrain,
transmission, other - i.e. Instead of coasting with no throttle, it slows
going downhill. I'm still wondering how many others on the list report
over 30 mpg.
'87 XN6, 4HP22, ~190k miles: gets 27 mpg highway, 20-23 city.
'83 XN6, 3HP, ~120k miles: gets low 20s @ 55 mph for the 6 miles going into
town.
My Yanmar diesel engine consumes 1/2 gallon per hour; at 6 knots cruise
speed that is slightly over 12 mpg.
Diesel fuel is $3.74 per gallon here; regular gas is $3.19
