To find out if the alternator is working fine, first make sure there is
someone nearby to give you a boost. Start the car, let it run for a
bit, then disconnect the battery. If the engine dies, the alternator
has a problem. Then you can call this someone to give you a boost. If
the alternator is working well, I believe it should be able to support
all the normal functions of the car after the battery has been
disconnected.
