Kenneth,

  If all you want to do is get it to the junkyard, then just borrow a battery, put it in, and then when you get to the JY, take it out and take it with you. The JY would probably prefer that since they won't have to deal with disposing of a battery.

  Or, if you're sending the car to the junkers, then do you really care if you put the alt under strain? Get the old battery charged the best you can and then jump the car off. As long as its daylight, the alt should have no trouble running the car and throwing amps into that big deep black electrical hole once known as a battery.
