RE: [Peugeot-L] questions on PRV V6 engines & trannys

Thanks alex.

it was the M46 boxes I'd been eyeballing. despite the turbo, I dont plan on going much over 200 HP: thats not a whole lot higher than the high performance 4 cylinder turbos are stock, , so I 'shouldnt' ( I hope) have too many issues. The ZF boxes are a LOT longer, and not suited to compound box setups. even an old cast case M40 would work, and those are supposedly 'bulletproof'

Actually, I guess I should elaborate on that a bit - I'm not a 'banzai warrior' type off roader. The dual trannys are for compound gearing, which in turn means you dont need to mash the throttle to get power to the ground. Off-road, you use a fast idle solenoid to get rpms up hair, pick a suitably low gear to get moving, then hang on, and let it drive its-self over the bad bits (its also got a front locker, and a rear spool). On-road, the turbo is for altitude compensation, long mountain grades with my support trailer hooked up, and a 'safety margin' for emergencies. Again, for towing on grades, the multitude of gears mean I can pick a decent rpm level, and let it cruise up under moderate throttle. combined gross is 7000-7500 lbs, so even with lots of gears, the stock 130-150 HP would be just a shade underpowered. 200 HP/250 ft.lbs are my approximate target #'s.

keeping to list foramt & content though: are there any peugeot 4 speed manual boxes that are stronger than the M46, comparable length, and N.America available? I'm actively rounding up bits for the project this weekend, and having taken some 1st hand measurements of the Eagle motor, it might not be as much work to fit as I'd first imagined. 3.0L with a bolt on tranny would certainly shorten up the buil dtime for me!

tia (thanks in advance)
