i dont believe its possible to blow up an AW transmission.
we have tried.
our peugeot dealer here in town had some connection to someone with a V6 Turbo with tons of extras. he chose the AW tranny, bc its just amazing.
toyota also uses it in some cars, past and present.
even driven without the right amount of fluid, the AW works fine...lets just say i KNOW that.
we even had one that everyone had pronounced dead. came back around with the right treatment in just a few days.
AWs are amazing.

The Volvos with V6s were available (in the US) with the Getrag M51(?),
the Volvo M46, and the Aisin-Warner AW55 (or BW55) and AW70.
The Getrag was supposedly found on some early V6 cars with manual
transmissions. The M46 is essentially the same as the M46 found on
the four cylinder cars, but the bellhousing is different. Same with
the autboxes. Internally quite similar, but with different
bellhousings.
Chances are you'd blow up any of those transmissions with a turbo'd V6
(excepting maybe the Getrag). You'd probably be best with a Getrag (of
which you can find similar ones in early 80s Bimmers), or a
Borg-Warner T5. Of course you'd have to get an appropriate
bellhousing adapter and such to get a non Volvo transmission to bolt
up.
