Interesting:
OnAfter having the clutch replaced some while back and just purchasing a
new GPS receiver; I noticed that they didn't plug the dash lighter
socket back in. Well, I plugged it back in and it still did not work for
a plug in volt meter. In fact it never did work in that socket before
any of this.
What I found out......... was that the polarity was reversed !! +12V to
the outside ring !!! Lucky that I did not plug in the GPS receiver.
Hopefully the GPS had an internal protection diode in it and would have
spared it from destruction. Did not want to test this out!
I had to cut both wires to the lighter socket and switch them over
because I could not remove the pins from the plug.
Word to the wise here: When plugging in new electronics to cigar
lighter in French Car, check the polarity of the socket !!
+12 to the center button only!
I would have never expected something like this and it could have been a
disaster.
