Hey group,
Yesterday, my dad and I took a trailer and picked up the free Mi16
in Monterey that was posted on here. The owner (Patrick) was a super
nice guy, and I want to thank him again for the cool free car and
let him know I have big plans to clean it up and use it!
The car does need a clutch badly. It will hardly move under it's own
power, with the clutch all the way out. I replcaed the clutch in my
other Mi16 about 5 years back when I first got it, and it was a
pretty big job. I just had a couple questions to make this go as
easily as possible...
- Is it necessary to remove the subframe entirely?
- If so, can I at least unbolt the steering rack and hang it up
under the car? I'd had to remove the rack on my other car, and I'd
rather change the heater core a dozen times than bash my knuckes
taking that little pinch bolt out of the steering shaft u-joint.
It's also a pain to get the u-joint back onto the splined shaft on
the rack.
Wish me luck! I'm looking forward to axle nuts that won't come off,
the intermediate bearing being stuck in the hole in the engine,
broken shift rods, and other fun!
