505 Tech: Fuel Injectors
Fuel Injectors
Stock US-Spec 505 turbo (n9t-n9tea) injectors:
0 280 150 802 284cm3/min (27.4 LBS/HR) (3.0 bar)
The injectors that were "supposed" to be used with the n9tea:
0 280 150 804 337cm3/min (32.5 LBS/HR) (3.0 bar)
Apparently these 804's came on the European 505 turbo models and like always, the US model was watered down. The 804's will fair pretty well with boost increased to around 17 psi give or take with the stock camshaft. When upgrading to the danielson camshaft there was a noticable difference in high-end fuel requirement. Basically we couldn't run as much boost with the cam or we'd hear a lean knock before the sensor pulled back timing. That danielson cam sucks a great deal more air up high than does the stock cam, although power is relatively lopsided to the high end. So after the danielson cam upgrade and the front mount intercooler, it was really obvious that new injectors were once again a priority to squeeze out a little more power. I contacted the 'motor man' of www.injectors4u.com about some options. He was EXTREMELY helpful, and his prices are right on as well. He's a great guy so give him a shout if you want some advice or information about injectors. $100 later i had a new matched and resealed/cleaned set of injectors with about 20% more flow than the 804 injectors. That puts them over 400 cc/min at 3 bar. A pretty large jump in fuel but i think it may come in handy in the future. The injector part number that he gave me is e5ze-a1a, a3a. I think he said that they came on some old turbo thunderbird, but i am not totally sure. The car now handles boost a lot more readily. i 'can' boost upwards of 20 psi but because of the boost spiking that we've been fighting since we got the car i limit this to about 17 psi. Honestly, i'm amazed the car runs as well as it does. Its putting down about 230whp as of now, and drivability is surprisingly good. Not bad for a shot-in-the-dark increase in fuel with no sufficiently acceptable method to control mixture. Once megasquirt and a wideband o2 sensor join the fun that'll be a different story. Hopefully it'll allow us to flatten out the dead spots in the rpm band.
